Walt Disney today revealed the first look at its upcoming film Mufasa: The Lion King, set for release on December 20. The film is a sequel to the studio’s critically acclaimed and visually stunning live-action remake of The Lion King and explores the unlikely rise of Mufasa, the beloved king of the Pride Lands. The studio also announced an all-star cast of voice talent, bringing new and fan-favorite characters to life.
Plot Summary:
In Mufasa: The Lion King, Rafiki recounts the legend of Mufasa to Kiara, a young cub and the daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa providing their usual comedic relief. Told through flashbacks, the film introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone, until he meets a compassionate lion named Taka – the heir to a royal bloodline. This chance encounter sets in motion an expansive journey for an extraordinary group of outcasts searching for their destiny. Their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.
